Ofsted Inspection Report, September 2017

pupil’s safety and wellbeing is at the heart of all we do

The Firs Lower School
Senior Leadership Team

Following our Ofsted inspection on 13th September, we are delighted with our report  which we think reflects the fantastic achievement and behaviour of our children, the quality of support we receive from all of our parents and the hard work and dedication of all our staff and governors.

The report states that ‘pupil’s safety and wellbeing is at the heart of all we do and this is especially important to us as caring for our pupils is our highest priority.

We were very pleased that our school continues to be good since the last inspection carried out in November 2013 and that we therefore retain the existing ‘Outstanding’ judgement for ‘behaviour and safety of pupils’.

The report notes that the school has ‘greatly strengthened’ our ‘systems to check on pupils’ progress’, therefore we can ‘intervene quickly’ when we ‘identify any pupils who may need extra help’.

We were very pleased that the inspector recognised that there is a strong leadership team that plays a full part in securing improvement. The report states ‘you have built a strong leadership team that plays a full part in securing improvement. Together, you, your staff and the skilled governing body are ambitious for your pupils, their families and the community you serve.’

The report also states that ‘working together to achieve our best is demonstrated daily by staff. Pupils make a considerable contribution to the success of the school in the way that they work hard, behave well and support each other’

We were delighted that the impressive behaviour and attitude to learning, exhibited by children at The Firs, was recognised by the inspector throughout our learning walks. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our children for their fantastic contribution, both during the inspection and this term.  Their love of learning and the way they have embraced all the facets of a ‘growth mind-set’ is something we can all be very proud of.

I am glad that the strong contribution made by our governing body was acknowledged in the report.  Our governors are very dedicated and do a fantastic job, supporting the school and helping us in our relentless drive for improvement.

I would like to say a special thank you to our very dedicated staff who have worked conscientiously and with determination, to ensure that the school is constantly developing and improving.  The school is very fortunate to have such a strong spirit of team work in the staff, which coupled with their professionalism and caring attitude, ensures that children thrive in their learning at The Firs.

The inspection was a very positive process and the report has set out all the successful elements in the provision we make, whilst giving us clear targets to work on into the future.  This will be of great value in helping to guide us on our continuous improvement journey.
