British Values & our value for the month

To further support our School Values and our promotion of 'British Values',  we think about and celebrate one of our 22 values each month, often linking them with different events and festivals, both locally and around the world.

We look at the value in assembly and in class and we aim to ‘live’ that value in the way we work with others in school.

In April 2024 our value is... Forgiveness

Learning about Forgiveness

At school, we explain to the children that forgiveness benefits the person doing the forgiving as well as the person who is being forgiven, bringing about peace of mind for both people. It takes a strong person to forgive and it takes a strong person to accept an apology.

We are asking parents/carers at home to send in a note if they think their child has demonstrated forgiveness, describing how they demonstrated this value.  We will celebrate some of their achievements in assembly (if they are happy with this).  Examples of forgiveness might be:

  • Accepting an apology and overcoming their feelings of anger towards the other person.

  • Accepting an apology and not blaming the other person.

  • Accepting an apology and putting what went wrong behind them.

  • Asking for forgiveness when they have made a mistake.

This is what people said about forgiveness….

Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them. Bruce Lee

When you forgive, you in no way change the past - but you sure do change the future. Bernard Meltzer

Forgiveness says you are given another chance to make a new beginning. Desmond Tutu

All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives. The Dalai Lama

To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you. Lewis B. Smedes

Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a permanent attitude. Martin Luther King Jr

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Mahatma Gandhi
