In the morning we were visited by Haiko from Sublime Science who worked with all the children in Year 3 and Year 4.

The children had a fantastic time and were enthralled by Haiko, who amazed them with one amazing demonstration after another!

The children learned about how sound travels and that it needs a medium like air to allow it to travel. They also found out that the longer the musical instrument, the lower the sound produced and the shorter the instrument, the higher the note. The children watched an amazing plasma ball experiment and some brave volunteers allowed themselves to become an electrical conductor… all in the name of science of course!

The highpoint of the demonstrations was the ‘Wacky Rockets’ finale, which the children were very excited by of course!

Also today…

In Year 4 the children have been completing their newspaper articles about the first American moon landings in 1969. They have been fascinated to learn about the way the astronauts got to the Moon and have taken a great pride in their finished newspaper pages.

Children in Year 4 have also been studying capillary action, observing how water from two beakers with food dye is sucked up by a paper towel into a third beaker. They followed that up by watching food dye rising up carnation stems to colour the petals.

Year 3 Have had a brilliant time extending their curriculum work on teeth by making their own toothpaste. They used baking soda, cornflour, salt, glycerine, food colouring and peppermint essence! They were even given a little pot to take it home in!
