What is The Pupil Premium Grant?

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding given to schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Each year, schools are required to set out how they are going to spend this money to support the achievement of entitled pupils.

    EYPP Grant

The aim of the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) is additional funding for early years settings to close the gap between children from disadvantaged backgrounds and other children by providing additional funding to settings such as ours, therefore providing the opportunity to raise the quality of provision we offer. All children aged three and four, who meet the eligibility criteria will benefit from the funding. This funding is paid directly to us on an hourly rate basis, linked to claimed hours for entitled children.

Our Approach to spending Pupil Premium Funding

Evidence suggests that pupil premium spending is most effective when schools use a tiered approach, targeting spending across 3 areas, with a particular focus on teaching:

    1.Teaching

Investing in high-quality teaching, for example:

    • training and professional development for teachers
    • recruitment and retention
    • support for teachers early in their careers

    2. Targeted academic support

Additional support for some pupils focussed on their specific needs, for example:

    • one-to-one tuition
    • small group tuition
    • speech and language therapy

    3. Wider approaches

Support for non-academic issues that impact success in school, such as attendance, behaviour and social and emotional challenges. For example:

    • pastoral support to enhance emotional health and wellbeing
    • support with participation in extracurricular activities
    • help with the cost of educational visits or with attending our Kids' Club

    School Meals

From September 26, the provision of ‘Free School Meals’ (FSM) includes all households receiving 'Universal Credit', but the Pupil Premium funding eligibility will only apply to the "Targeted FSM" cohort, which will be households earning under £7,400 per year.

(If a pupil currently receives pupil premium, schools will retain this funding for a protection period of 6 years however, even if the family's financial situation improves.)

Central Bedfordshire operates an ‘auto enrolment’ system for children who are entitled to either ‘FSM’ or ‘Targeted FSM’. You can find out more by following this link to the CBC website or by contacting them on 0300 300 8000.

If you have any questions about this or think your child is eligible but is not receiving either FSM or Targeted FSM Pupil Premium funding, please contact the school office and we will be very happy to speak with you.
