Year 3 Anglo Saxon Day

A fun and very successful history experience

‘Off The Page’ delivered a very successful history experience for Year 3 today, that all the children participating thoroughly enjoyed.  In the morning, the children participated in a fantastic range of ‘hands-on’ activities such as making clay faces, making rune stones from clay, making ink, writing with illuminated letters, making tallow candles and practising fighting skills.  The morning concluded with a very exciting reenactment of the Battle of Eddington in which King Alfred the Great defeated the Vikings.  In the afternoon the children worked in the role of an archeologist learning how we found about the past using historical artefacts.  It was an absolutely fantastic day, which we are sure the children will remember for a very long time.  We would like to say a thank you to the many parents here today, whose help was invaluable.  We would also like to say a big thank you to the Year 3 for organising such a splendid day!
