Harvest Festival at The Firs Lower School

Collecting Donations for The Need Project

We were very excited to welcome back our special guest at this year’s Harvest Festival, Dominic Holroyd, the Reverend of St Andrews Church, who kindly delivered an interesting and engaging assembly around the Jewish Festival of Shelters called 'Sukkot', which celebrates the gathering and abundance of the harvest.

The Reverend then built a shelter to represent a safe, warm place to live and symbolise the one that the Jewish people lived in for 40 years in the wilderness. The children shared what they could put inside their shelter.

The Reverend also spoke about the use of a loaf of harvest bread as a focal point in many harvest displays.

The children brought our assembly to a close, singing 'Harvest Samba' and 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' to give thanks for harvest time.

Thank you to everyone for your very generous donations to our Harvest display. The Need Project have collected all the produce, helped by our Year 4 School Ambassadors, and commented that they should have brought a bigger van.
