Transition To School
The process begins early on when the children are in their final academic year with us at The Saplings Preschool.
The children have their lunch in the main school hall, if they are having a hot meal, with support they can receive their lunch from the catering team at the serving hatch before finding their place mat to eat lunch.
Towards the end of the term the children clear their own plates, so they are ready for when they transition into school.
The Pine class teachers and teaching assistants arrange a time to visit our children in The Saplings, so they have a familiar face before the children go over to have settling in sessions in Pine (the reception class).
Reception Class Teachers
During the settling in sessions the children go over to reception class for a short visit, where they can meet the staff and explore the pine classroom and outdoor environment.
RWI begins in the final term within Saplings where the children learn the set one sounds in preparation for when they start the full RWI programme in Pine.
Transition forms are completed for all children moving to school the next academic year. Review meetings take place with the teachers in reception year to share any documentation including EHC plans to ensure there is continuity of care.
